The past three articles in the weight management series have given you valuable tools. Educating yourself on what is needed to keep a healthy body is invaluable. But what about those days you just don’t want to do anything? What if you are in a rut? You just want to grab an unhealthy snack and watch a movie on the couch. Of course, moderation is always ok, but when you need some extra motivation to keep you moving along in your journey, think of these tips below:
Remember why you are on the journey. What got you here? What was the moment that you decided you were worth it? What are you doing this for? Every person has a different reason why they want a healthier lifestyle. Don’t forget why you want to live an energetic and healthy life.
IF YOU DID NOT CHANGE:
Envision yourself in 10 years without changing anything. What would you see? What have you learned so far about a healthier lifestyle? Imagine what would be different if you had not learned these lifestyle tips. Would you envision that you would need more medications? Would you have newer secondary health concerns? Now that you have the knowledge on how to make these healthy changes, you are in charge of your healthy choices. Imagine if you had not decided to make this change. This vision can be a great motivation and a good reminder of why you are at this part of your journey.
BUT YOU DID CHANGE!
Envision where you want to be in 10 years. Now that you know what your lifestyle changes are about, imagine what you see yourself doing in 5-10 years after making these changes. Remember the change in your health is a long term goal. These lifestyle changes take time and keep that vision of what you want to do with your healthier self in mind when you need motivation.
Be prideful! When you have chosen to make a healthy veggie snack instead of a processed sugary snack, praise yourself for it! That is a small victory! Making small changes in your habits can be challenging. Make sure you are giving yourself credit for these changes.
